The structure of ultra-pure liquid gallium in a supercooled condition and the oxidation process of a smooth surface of liquid gallium at room and lower temperatures in the atmospheric and UHV environment were investigated. Complex study by SEM, TEM and Auger spectrometry showed the following:
Ultra-pure liquid gallium (>8N) in an overcooled condition at room temperature is characterized by a clustered structure, an atomic configuration of which is very close to radial distribution of the atomic configuration of crystalline gallium in β- and δ- metastable phases.
At room temperature in atmospheric environment, during a long period of time, a thin (~500nm) elastic oxide film with an amorphous structure was formed. The film had even thickness and porosity with dispersion of pore dimensions in the range of 10-1000 nm. In the UHV environment, at room temperature, chemical adsorption of oxygen atoms and physical adsorption of carbon atoms were identified.
In electron diffraction patterns, four diffuse haloes were observed at S1=1.76Å-1, S2=3.083Å-1, S3=3.48Å-1 and S4=5.28Å-1, that did not coincide with the intensity distribution for Ga2O3 phases.
The Auger-spectrometric analysis of oxide films on the surface of liquid gallium in the UHV environment and in the atmosphere revealed that the composition was Ga2O and the formation of oxide started just after dissociative adsorption.

and Chikvaidze G.I.
Iv.Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University
The photosensitized formation of free radicals of bilirubin with g = 2.003 and ΔH=1.0 mTI under the effect of blue light at λmax = 450 nm was studied by means of electronic spin resonance (ESR). Irradiation of the sample in vacuum with visible light did not cause the formation of free radicals. Irradiation of the bilirubin powder and its solution in chloroform led to the formation of the bilirubin radical. The analysis of the spectra (ESR) of the bilirubin powder and its solution in chloroform showed that the introduced free radical belonged to bilirubin and not the solvent. Irradiation of the bilirubin solution in chloroform causes the appearance of the absorption spectral line at λmax = 650 nm, that is characteristic of the biliverdin solution in chloroform.

The dependence of atomic absorption and atomic fluorescence signals on the conditions of their determination was studied for chromium(VI) and chromium(III). It was shown that, in the flame C2H2 - air, the analytical signals from the Cr(VI) and Cr(III) solutions of the same concentration do not differ significantly, the signal of Cr(III), as a rule, exceeding that of Cr(VI). When using the flame propane-butane-air, the sensitivity of Cr(VI) determination becomes twice as large as that of Cr(III). The influence of HCl on the atomic absorption and atomic fluorescence signals of the Cr(VI) solutions in the propane-butane-air flame was studied.
