SOLUTION OF THE PROBLEM OF PORTFOLIO SELECTION BY USING MATHEMATICAL METHODS

Magrakvelidze D.G. and Gurtskaia P.A.

Georgian Technical University

The article deals with the problem of portfolio selection and its mathematical solution. For the construction of efficient portfolio, some assumptions about the principles of investment decisions must be made. The refinement of the concept of risk adopted in the investment management was formulated by Markowitz. According to the principles of the Markowitz theory, the investor always chooses the portfolio lying at the efficient frontier. This selection is made by analyzing the risk-return relation between the risk and the return. Moving from left to right along the border, we increase the expected risk, but at the same time the boundaries of  profitability expand. Thus, it is obvious that the optimal portfolio depends on the preferences when choosing between the risk and the return. These preferences can be described by the utility function.

Keywords: portfolio, selection, profitability, investment, utility function.

BLACK’S MODEL WITH THE ZERO BETA AND MERTON’S MULTIFACTOR CAPM

Magraqvelidze D.G. and Gurtskaia P.A.

Georgian Technical University

The article deals with the Black’s approach, which is the generalization of CAPM in the case of the risk-free interest rate at which the investor can borrow and lend money. The version of CAPM derived by Black is called the two-factor model. Empirical studies showed that it described the statistical estimates of return better than the original CAPM did. Taking into account the risks of investments encouraged Robert Merton to improve the CAPM. This improvement is based on the principle of optimization of the “future consumption” by the investor with account for the off-market (extra-market) risk sources on which it depends.

PRINCIPLE OF FEEDBACK AND ENTROPY

Didmanidze I.Sh.  and Tkhilaishvili R.J.

Shota Rustaveli State University, Batumi

The article deals with the principle of feedback and its fundamental role in worldwide processes. Two types of feedback, positive and negative, and the changes in entropy depending on the   feedback type are discussed. It is demonstrated that there are a lot of examples of positive feedback in everyday life. Moreover, it reveals itself in different processes in the environment, on the Earth, in the cosmos etc. Like the positive feedback, the negative one reflects the relationship between the system (natural, engineering etc.) and the environment/external world.  Despite the external influence, the negative feedback retains its natural parameters.

Modification of the target functional of neural networks and selection of optimal parameters FOR FORECASTING PURPOSES

Didmanidze I.Sh.  and  Kachiani G.A.

Shota Rustaveli State University, Batumi

Neural networks designed for solving a specific problem acquire their properties during the learning process. The learning process involves either the determination of the weighting coefficients of the synaptic connections among neurons or the introduction of special rules that would change the weighting coefficients in accordance with the response of one or another neuron or network. The forecasting results obtained by using multilayer neural networks showed that, in the case of a one-day forecast, the neural networks provided the exact prediction. Long-term forecasting was still of high quality, though it tended to worsening. The modification of the target functional allows improving the quality of forecasting the trend direction by 20%.

PARTICIPATION OF DEEP CENTERS IN ELECTRON SCATTERING IN A STRONG ELECTRIC  FIELD AT 4.2K

Janelidze O.M. and Kutubidze B.V.

Shota Rustaveli Batumi State University

There is suggested a model according to which the increase in the energy of deep centers in GaAs at 4.2K in the mode of impact ionization is achieved by transferring a portion of energy of hot electrons and localization of the energy of longitudinal acoustic oscillations of the basic lattice atoms. This leads to the formation of the electric dipole moments of quantum transitions in the excited deep center. The decrease in the mobility of electrons with the increasing field is caused by the quantum-mechanical scattering of electrons at the quantum dipole moment. Subsequent localization of the energy of hot electrons and longitudinal acoustic oscillations of the basic lattice atoms causes the reduction of symmetry, splitting, electron capture, a decrease in the current intensity because of the reduction of the free electron concentration and mobility, and the occurrence of current instability.

Keywords: deep centers, electron scattering, dipole moment, strong electric field.

EXCITATION OF DEEP CENTERS WITH THE LONGITUDINAL ACOUSTIC WAVE OF THE BRILLOUIN ZONE EDGE IN A STRONG ELECTRIC FIELD

Janelidze O.M. and Kutubidze B.V.

Shota Rustaveli Batumi State University

The article deals with the excitation of deep centers with the longitudinal wave of the Brillouin zone edge. It is shown that at 77K the properties of deep centers change depending on the external electric field strength. Via energy localization, they become the centers of disperse scattering and electron capture under the reduction of symmetry. The excitation of the center occurs during the process of localization of the energy of longitudinal acoustic oscillations of the basic lattice atoms, wandering of the energy of excited deep centers, and London and resonant interaction among the centers.

EXPERIMENTAL STUDIES ON THE INTERACTION OF THE RIGID STAMPING TOOL WITH THE POCKET FOUNDATION

Vacharadze V.V. and Vacharadze Â.S.

Georgian Technical University

The article deals with the interaction of the rigid stamping tool with low-humid and moist loessial foundations  in field conditions. The  load  and unload settlement of the stamping  tool, contact pressure, and vertical and horizontal shifting  of the foundation surface outside  the rigid stamping tool were measured. If  the external load  value does not exceed the structural strength of the soil, one can say with a fair degree of confidence that the foundation response to stamping tool indentation is described by contact design models based on the elasticity theory. If the external load exceeds the structural strength of soil pressing, the conditions of development of irreversible local deformations take place. In this case, the Winkler model gives the best convergence with the experimental results.

Georgian Technical University

Nonmetallic materials have found wide application in many fields. One of the materials of that kind is a high-strength composite made of aramid fiber, which belongs to the category of armoring materials. In industry, machining of these materials is associated with some difficulties such as the transient surface failure, the tight-fitting film around the lank, which involves destruction of the material or degradation of its properties. In this connection, the technology of plasma cutting of high-strength composites made of aramid fiber was elaborated, and the corresponding plant was designed. The design involves fixing of the material between copper plates, and water delivery to the cutting zone and to the plate grooving from the side of the contacting cut material provided melting of the cutting surface, which made it readily susceptible to mechanical treatment without being destructed.

Abstract. It was determined experimentally that the efficient photosensitivity of the cholesteric liquid-crystal composition doped with long-radical spiropyrans to UV radiation exceeded that of the composition doped with short-radical ones. This is likely to be caused by the fact that, in the presence of the long alkyl radical at the nitrogen atom, the merocyanine form of the spiropyran molecule with a lyophilic zwitterionic head and a lyophobic nonpolar tail  is amphiphilic. Under certain conditions, the molecules of this kind self-organize into micelles, which disturb the thermodynamic equilibrium in the basic solution. For restoring the thermodynamic equilibrium, merocyanine molecules add to the photoinduced merocyanine ones,  which eventually increases the number of absorption centers.
