Georgian Technical University

Abstract. A simplified method for derivation of dispersion equations for finding the propagation constants for angular symmetric modes of the circular multilayer magnetodielectric waveguide is presented. The analysis is based on the use of the transmission matrix of the cylindrical layer (TMCL), associating the tangential field components of the angular symmetric modes of the structure at the cylindrical boundaries of the layer. The efficiency of the method is due to the unified notation of the dispersion equation, which includes the product of a few TMPL according to the number of layers, which are unimodular.  The recurrent notation of the dispersion equations is also given.

Keywords: angular symmetric modes, circular multilayer magnetodielectric waveguide, dispersion equation, transmission matrix of cylindrical layer (TMCL).

Abstract. A new approach to numerical evaluation of the quality of educational processess is suggested. To these ends, new sums of squares, representing two criteria of evaluation of the academic state of a given group of students were introduced: SSH - the heterogeneous sum and SSM - the motivation sum. Also the corresponding heterogeneity and motivation indices were introduced. The system of criteria (sums of squares and indices) provides a possibility of evaluating objectively the academic state of the group of students and the quality of the educational process as a whole, which is very important for both teacher’s self-appraisal and quality service officers.

THE STUDY ON THE FORMATION AND DISTRIBUTION OF SLIP STREAKS AND MICROCRACKS IN AUSTENITIC STEEL AFTER LOW-CYCLIC FATIGUE DEFORMATION BY SCANNING ELECTRON MICROSCOPY: PART I

Eterashvili T.V.

Republican Center of Structural Research, Georgian Technical University

The distribution of slip streaks and microcracks in respect to the cycling axis was studied. The locations of formation of both primary and secondary slip streaks were determined. The correlation between the slip streaks and the structural components of the steel was revealed. The statistical curves of distribution of the slip streaks by angles were plotted. The scatter in slip streaks by angles and its link with both the crystallography and anisotropy of the material was considered. The possibility of formation of microcracks on the slip streaks was studied, and it was determined what kind of slip streaks they could be formed in. Besides the slip streaks, other possible locations and reasons of microcrack formation after the low-cyclic fatigue deformation are discussed. It is explained why fewer microcracks are observed on the sample surface than it could have been expected. It is demonstrated that the directions of microcracks and the main mezocrack often coincide or are close to coincidence. It is inferred that the mezocrack in the sample grows through merging of microcracks.

Keywords: austenite, slip streak, fatigue, microcrack, scanning election microscopy.

THE STUDY ON THE FORMATION AND DISTRIBUTION OF SLIP STREAKS AND MICROCRACKS IN AUSTENITIC STEEL AFTER LOW-CYCLIC FATIGUE DEFORMATION BY USING THE TRANSMISSION ELECTRON MICROSCOPE: PART II

Eterashvili T.V.

Republican Center of Structural Research, Georgian Technical University

The problems of nano- and micromechanics of destruction of thin foils of austenitic steel after low-cyclic fatigue deformation (LCFD) are discussed. The investigation was performed by using the transmission electron microscope (TEM). The proposed technique consists in weathering of thin foil samples, prepared for the TEM examination, for 1.5-2.0 hours. In this interval of time, owing to the redistribution and relaxation of peak stresses, local changes in the sample microstructure, including the formation of microcracks, take place. The locations of microcrack formation, the interaction among the cracks and their interaction with the structural elements of the steel and with inclusions were studied. By the proposed technique, the crystallography of slip streaks, microcracks and their distribution was studied. It is shown that merging or stopping of microcracks depends on the angle of their joining within the microarea of the grain. The effect of the grain anisotropy and the inhomogeneity of stress distribution on the growth and trajectory of crack propagation was studied.

Keywords: austenite, low-cyclic fatigue deformation, slip streaks, microcrack, anisotropy, transmission electron microscopy.

Abstract. The research nuclear reactor IRT-M of Andronikashvili Institute of Physics was decommissioned by means of covering the lower part of the reactor tank activated during the long-term operation of the facility with concrete. The plan of decommissioning foresaw as well the creation of a new low-power nuclear facility in the remained part of the reactor tank, which would allow solving the scientific and applied problems important for Georgia. The present paper pursues two purposes: Firstly, to show the preliminary estimations of the type of concrete and the shielding layer thickness by using standard mathematical methods and computer programs, according to which the processes of concrete the were performed, providing the required shielding from the covered radioactive parts of reactor tank and other radioactive waste, concreted in the places of their location of storage on the reactor site. Secondly, to show that the low-power pool-type nuclear reactor (with thermal power < 50 kW) consuming 20% enriched nuclear fuel and cooled by natural circulation of coolant is absolutely safe both from the nuclear and radiation points of view and hardly causes damage to the environment and to the health even in the maximum hypothetical emergency situations.

ON THE MULTIDIMENSIONAL MODEL OF THE UNIVERSE

Sepiashvili D.P.

Georgian Engineering Academy

The time-space structure of the Universe is multidimensional. In vacuum, virtual doubles or, more exactly, multiplicates of real bodies and, cosequently, the information field controlling the movement of these bodies (particles) could exist. For describing the multidimensional structure of matter and its complex inner time-space relations, a new systems approach is necessary. In the process of development of the Universe, the transition of multiplicates into the past takes place, their number in the future decreases continuously and the inhomogeneity and the entropy increase. The available information might be more and more fragmentary. Hence, the time in the Universe will pass quicker and quicker. In vacuum, the entropy decreases, whereas the latent energy increases. In the terminal phase, the repeat genesis of the Universe from vacuum cannot be ruled out.

ON THE PROBLEM OF  AGE DEFORMATIONS OF THE FOOT IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE SIZE-STOUTNESS SCALE OF FOOTWEAR

Grdzelidze M.G., Katamadze A.G. and Shalamberidze M.M.

Akaki Tsereteli State University, Kutaisi

The article deals with the problems associated with age deformations of the foot and their consideration in the size-stoutness scale of footwear. It is shown that, in the age-sex classification of potential footwear consumers, the group of old (60-80) and senile (older than 80) age must be separated out. The size typology of the feet of the people of the abovementioned age, as well as the statistical and biochemical characteristics of such feet, should thoroughly be studied. It is emphasized that, because of age deformations, the aged people have more individual sizes of feet, which must be accounted for in the size-stoutness scale in the production of footwear for old people.

Keywords: footwear, foot, old people, size-stoutness scale.

The analysis of investigation results has shown that the basic size features changed: the average height grew by 6 cm; in the scale a new VII height was added – more than 194 cm, while the average height made up 173.15 cm. The number of stoutness groups increased for all size groups. These changes will be taken into consideration when working out new size typology of the male population of Georgia.

ON A HYPOTHETIC MODEL OF PARTICIPATION OF THE IMMUNE SYSTEM IN METASTASIZATION OF TUMORS

Sepiashvili D.P.

Oncologic Health Center, Ltd.

Tumor cells lose their capability of self-destruction at the hazard of their transformation; they are actually immortal. The macrophages phagocyting the oncogenous cell (its nucleus or fragment) may not manage to destroy it. Under such conditions, the transformation of the macrophage itself into the oncogenous cell could not be ruled out. In the present work, a new hypothesis for the participation of the immune system in the metastasization of tumors is proposed. The extensive investigation of this mechanism would help to find new ways of cancer forecast and treatment.
