VARIABLE-Geometry rotor and its effective applications

T urmanidze R.S.

Georgian Technical University

Distinctively different requirements have been advanced to the rotor at the takeoff and cruise flight modes. Therefore, the use of rotors with the fixed geometry parameters significantly reduces the efficiency of the use of various air vehicles. The solution of this problem is possible by creation of variable-geometry rotors, the use of which will be especially effective in the case of the airplanes with vertical takeoff and landing. At the Georgian Technical University, together with Boeing Company (USA), the variable-geometry rotor was designed and manufactured. This design provides simultaneous changes in the rotor diameter, the pitch angle of each blade, and their twist during the flight. In the present work, the improvement possibilities of operation characteristics of the aircraft with variable-geometry rotors are analysed. The test results on a special stand are presented and the efficiency of their application in various fields of technology is shown.

Elaboration of the conceptual Model of decreasing the wear of gears and bearings of automobile transmissions at gavitation by using oils containing highly dispersed amorphous carbon

Abramishvili G.S., Iosebidze D.S., Chkheidze A.P., Kutelia E.R., Kipiani G.O. and Zurabishvili L.A.

Georgian Technical University

The conceptual model of decreasing the wear of gears and bearings of automobile transmissions at cavitations by using oils containing highly dispersed amorphous carbon (HDAC) is presented. It is demonstrated that, in contrast to common commercial oils, the oils containing HDAC promote reduction of the roughness of the abovmentioned gears and bearings. Under vibration, the intensity of tribosynthesis of the secondary surface structure, including the diamond phase, increases significantly and provided high wear resistance of rubbing surfaces.

Keywords: gears, bearings, wear resistance, cavitations, oils highly dispersed amorphous carbon.

Bakhtadze J . A ., Zambakhidze L . Yu ., Lagundaridze G . O .,

Kristesiashvili E.N. and Manjavidze M.L.

Georgian Technical University

Abstract . For monitoring of the structures of the power system around the perimeter of the Enguri River, a global security system using fiber-optic sensors has been developed.

For construction of the united security system and determination of the most vulnerable places of the appearance of defects and determination of the parameters affecting the efficiency of the structures of the power system, the stressed-strained state of these structures was analyzed. Then the metrological properties of fiber-optic sensors were estimated; their new designs, methods of their mounting and fixing on the structures, and the units of their joining were developed; their compatibility was investigated; optic cables for receiving and transmission of information were chosen.

The application of the developed security system allows changing from the control of the power system structures by the “time resource” to the control by their “technical state”, and also monitoring of the structures in the process of both their construction and operation.

Some lay-outs of mounting of the fiber-optic sensors on the structures under study are presented.

Keywords : security system, energetic systems, fiber-optic sensors.

Tepnadze S.A. and Tavadze N.G.

Georgian Engineering Academy

Georgian Technical University

The approach and landing capabilities of airplane TU-154M under showers and wind shear were studied. At speed loss as a result of entering the wind shear or the shower area, the center-of-gravity shift of the airplane reduces the reserve time of its handling. It is demonstrated that, in dry atmosphere at entering the wind shear of the same intensity, the reserve time of the crew is less in the case of the Katabatic wind, i.e. it is more dangerous. However, the tail wind shear becomes more dangerous under the shower.

E.Andronikashvili Institute of Physics

Abstract. The results of the investigation of electroless metallization, which enable us to carry out micro- and nanominiaturization of electronic devices and to increase their reliability, are presented. The technologies developed allow obtaining coatings with desired properties, replacing adequately Au and Ag coatings with Ni alloy ones, excluding application of toxic substances, reducing time and labor intensity of device production, and excluding application of expensive equipment in production of piezoquartz resonators and filters, molnolitic piezoquartz filters, piezoceramic devices, photomasks, ICs, capacitors, etc. There is also presented a new nanotechnology. This nanotechnology allows one to produce photomasks and microdevices with nano-sized adjacent elements of different thickness made of various materials by single conventional UV photolithography. These advantages significantly extend functional capabilities of the device and simplify removal of undesirable gases and heat dissipation. The proposed technology allow one to exclude application of very expensive e-beam exposure equipment, X-ray masks with gold masking elements and photomasks with a light phase shift.

The hydrodynamic method of removal of bottom sediments from gravity sewage collectors

Tabukashvili K.F. and Makatsaria K.A.

Georgian Technical University

The hydroaerodynamic method of cleaning the sewage collectors is suggested. The method differs from the existing ones in that, for formation of self-cleaning bottom velocities, neither a rise in the maximum water flow rate nor a collector slope is needed. The essence of the method consists in the effect obtained by the action of the air stream on the water flow resulting in artificial redistribution of its velocity field. It is demonstrated that structural changes in the velocity field of the liquid flow facilitate the increase in the active load on the solid particles settled on the collector bottom. The amount of bottom sediments carried out by the flow increases 5-13 times under wave conditions as compared with the everyday conditions.

Keywords : sewage collectors, bottom sediments, cleaning, hydrodynamic method.

Phages - Antibiotics of the 21 st Century

Kalandarishvili L.L.

Joint Stock Company BIOPHARM L

Abstract . Bacteria resistant to most or all available antibiotics cause more and more serous problems. So, there is a risk of going back to the problems having faced the humanity in the past when there were no antibiotics, and when uncurable infections and epidemics were widely spread. Despite the activities of pharmaceutical companies for recent 30 years, there have not been found any new classes of antibiotics. It is expected that the discovered possibilities of complete sequencing of microbial genomes and determination of molecular bases of pathogenesis will open new avenues of treatment of infectious diseases. With more and more zeal, they are seeking for other approaches to this problem. One of the results of such search in the revived interest in the therapeutic abilities of bacteriophages - specific viruses that attack only harmful bacteria and destroy pathogenic microorganisms.
